Nothing's Essential Space gets smarter

Nothing is rolling out a significant update to Essential Space, the AI-powered hub built into its phones. The update brings event detection, semantic search, and a redesigned interface—and it's available on all 2025 and 2026 Nothing and CMF phones with an Essential Key.

The biggest addition is event recognition. Say you save a photo of a flyer for a pottery class—Essential Space will now pull out the date, time, and location and display them in a dedicated Events card. It works with images and voice recordings alike, so anything you capture that mentions an upcoming event gets automatically structured and surfaced. To match this, the app's layout has been reorganised into two tabs: a For You page that surfaces action items like tasks and events, and a Library tab where all your saved notes and images live.

Semantic search makes finding saved content far less frustrating

The update also introduces semantic search, which is probably the most practically useful addition. You no longer need to remember exactly how something was worded to find it—Essential Space will match results based on meaning. If you're looking for an image, describing it in plain language should be enough to surface it. Honestly, it's a little surprising search wasn't there from the start.Nothing Phone 4a joins the Essential Space familyCompatibility has also expanded. The update now covers the Nothing Phone (3a), Phone (3a) Pro, Phone (3a) Lite, Phone (3), CMF Phone 2 Pro, and the newly launched Phone (4a) and Phone (4a) Pro. Essential Space will update automatically if auto-update is enabled, or you can grab it manually from the Google Play Store.
