Apple Ultra lineup may grow to include iPhone, MacBook and AirPods in 2026-27

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Foldable iPhone Ultra may come in late 2026 and the other two products could come in 2027.
  • MacBook Ultra may run future M6-series chips and have an OLED display.
  • AirPods Ultra may feature onboard cameras and AI support.

Ultra is the branding for the top-of-the-line series in Apple’s watches and Mac chips. If rumours are to be believed, then Apple is working on a new ultra-premium tier above its Pro-graded iPhones, MacBooks and AirPods. So in 2026-27, we could witness a foldable iPhone Ultra, an OLED touchscreen MacBook Ultra, and an AI-enabled AirPods Ultra. If you want a more premium experience from each of the product categories, then you may not have to wait longer. But here are some details worth knowing about them.

iPhone Ultra: Apple’s first foldable phone

According to industry leaks, Apple’s first foldable iPhone will be called the iPhone Ultra. It is described as a book-style phone that unfolds into a tablet-like display.

The device is said to have roughly a 7.7‑inch inner OLED screen and a 5.3‑inch cover display, with two rear cameras and one front camera. Notably, it is rumoured to use Touch ID (fingerprint sensor) in the power button instead of Face ID. Under the hood, it could be housing an A20 Pro processor coupled with an in-house C2 modem.

As for measurements, the iPhone Ultra could be just 4.5 mm thick when unfolded. For context, Samsung’s Z Fold 7 measures 4.2mm when unfolded.

Apple is expected to unveil it in late 2026 (likely alongside the iPhone 18 Pro models), though supply may be limited. It could reportedly have a very high price, roughly over $2,000, reflecting its position as a new ultra-premium iPhone.

So, what it would offer is a larger multitasking display for running two apps side‑by‑side (iPad‑style) on the go. But it could cost more than the other iPhones and may have some tradeoffs in durability or battery life.

MacBook Ultra: OLED touchscreen laptop

The MacBook Ultra could be a high-end MacBook with an OLED display and touchscreen support. Leaks suggest that it will feature future M-series processors (M6 Pro/Max), a thinner design, and even a Dynamic Island on the screen, all in an OLED panel.

It may arrive in early 2027, and the delay may be due in part because of memory-chip shortages slowing development.

A MacBook with touch could enable new workflows involving drawing or direct on-screen interaction. Its OLED properties could mean better contrast and colour for creatives. In a way, it could merge the functionalities of macOS and iPadOS. But let’s see how Apple positions this.

AirPods Ultra: AI headphones with cameras

Apple is rumoured to be developing AirPods Ultra, a new top-tier AirPods with onboard cameras and AI features. This Ultra model will likely cost more than the existing $249 AirPods Pro, and could come in late 2027.

The key new hardware in it could be tiny infrared cameras on each earbud for feeding visual information to Siri and Apple Intelligence. Siri would become more context-aware because of this. And the user could then ask Siri about objects or text in view, ask it to set ‘visual reminders’, and give turn-by-turn directions based on reference landmarks Siri sees.

Let’s see whether Apple implements any accessibility features, and how it addresses privacy concerns users may have. Some reports suggest Apple could at least offer an LED indicator when the camera on the AirPods is recording.

Needless to say, Apple hasn’t confirmed or hinted at any of these ‘Ultra’ products. But the rumours fit Apple’s likely strategy to broaden its premium product portfolio with more high-end hardware. Some segments, like touchscreen laptops and foldable phones, could see a boom once Apple enters the scene.

All these rumoured products are probably a year or two away, and they will carry very high price tags. So, if you need a device soon, you may buy what’s available on the market.
