Apple is gearing up for what could be one of its biggest product years ever. According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, the company is planning to launch three major devices in late 2027: a special 20th anniversary iPhone, a second-generation foldable iPhone, and a new pair of AirPods with built-in cameras.
All three are currently being tested with iOS 28, though Gurman notes that timing remains fluid and could change.
Camera AirPods: Apple's First AI Wearable
The camera AirPods, internally codenamed B798, are arguably the most interesting product in this lineup. These aren't cameras for taking photos or videos. The infrared sensors are designed to scan the wearer's surroundings and feed that visual information directly to Siri in real time.
The idea is that Siri can then answer questions about what you're looking at, help with turn-by-turn walking directions, identify objects around you, and trigger contextual reminders. It's an extension of the Visual Intelligence feature Apple already has on iPhone, built into a wearable form factor.
Visually, the AirPods will look similar to the current AirPods Pro 3, with the cameras embedded in the stem. There'll also be a light that lets people around the wearer know when the cameras are active.
These were originally planned for 2026, but got delayed because of Apple's ongoing struggles with AI and Siri. Developing the visual models needed to actually identify real-world objects in real time took longer than expected.

If that timeline holds, the glasses and the camera AirPods could end up launching around the same time, giving Apple two AI vision products in the market simultaneously.
What This Means for 2027
Apple launching three flagship products simultaneously would be unprecedented for the company. 2027 is already shaping up as a significant year for the industry, with Android ultra-flagships from OPPO and Vivo also expected in early 2027. If Apple hits its targets, it'll be a genuinely exciting year for anyone following consumer tech.
